You’re Not Just Stressed — You’re Carrying Too Much

Introduction
April is recognized as Stress Awareness Month.
But if we’re honest… most of us don’t need awareness.
We already know we’re stressed.
What we don’t always recognize is why.
Because for many women—especially those who are used to being strong—stress isn’t just about what’s happening today.
It’s about everything we’ve been carrying… for years.
Stress Isn’t Always About Today
Stress isn’t always your schedule.
It’s not just deadlines, responsibilities, or expectations.
Sometimes stress is:
Unprocessed grief
Conversations you never had
Boundaries you never set
Roles you outgrew but stayed in
Pain you learned to work through instead of work on
We call it stress because it feels easier than calling it what it is.

Weight…The Hidden Cost of “Holding It Together”
In March, we talked about how women compartmentalize.
How we separate what we feel from what we have to do.
And for a while… it works.
Until it doesn’t.
Because what you suppress doesn’t disappear. It shows up somewhere else.
In your body.In your thoughts. In your patience. In your energy.
You’re not “just stressed.”
You’re carrying things that were never meant to be carried this long.
High-Functioning Doesn’t Mean Healthy
You can be:
Showing up to work every day
Taking care of your family
Supporting everyone around you
Leading, producing, achieving
…and still be overwhelmed internally.
Functioning is not the same as being well.
Many women don’t break down because they’re strong.
They don’t break down because they’ve learned how to delay it.

What Stress Might Be Trying to Tell You
Instead of asking, “How do I manage my stress?” Try asking:
What is my stress trying to reveal?
Where am I overextended?
Where am I out of alignment?
Where have I ignored what I truly need?
What have I been avoiding that now requires my attention?
Stress is not always the problem.
Sometimes it’s the signal.
You Don’t Need More Coping—You Need Release
We’ve been taught to manage stress.
Breathe through it. Push through it.Stay busy.
But what if the answer isn’t more coping?
What if the answer is less carrying?
Not everything requires your endurance.
Some things require your decision.
To step back
To say no
To let go
To process instead of postpone
A Different Kind of Awareness
This month, I’m not asking you to just recognize your stress.
I’m asking you to respect it.
Because it might be the only honest signal your body has been able to send.

Reflection…
Pause and ask yourself:
What am I carrying that I never gave myself permission to put down?
Where am I tired—not physically, but emotionally?
What would change if I stopped managing and started releasing?
Sit with your answers.
That’s where your clarity begins.
Conclusion
You’re not weak because you feel overwhelmed.
You’re aware.
And awareness is the first step toward change.
This month, don’t just manage your stress.

Listen to it….
Because it might be telling you something you’ve been too busy to hear.
