This Version of Me Cost Me Something

Introduction
May has always been my birthday month.
A time to celebrate life.
To reflect.
To look at where I’ve been… and where I’m going.
But this year feels different.
Not because everything is perfect.
But because I’m not the same.
This Version Didn’t Happen Overnight
People will see you now and think:
“She’s strong.”
“She’s grounded.”
“She’s walking in purpose.”
What they don’t always see is what it took to get here.
This version of me required:
Letting go of what no longer served me
Sitting with emotions I used to avoid
Releasing control I thought I needed
Choosing alignment over comfort
And most of all…
Learning how to stop carrying everything.

I Had to Learn a Different Kind of Strength
For a long time, strength looked like:
Pushing through
Holding it together
Taking care of everyone else
But this season taught me something different.
Strength is not always about what you can carry.
Sometimes it’s about what you’re finally willing to release.
The Shift
Over the past few months, something has been settling in my spirit:
I don’t have to be who I used to be just because people are used to that version of me.
That realization changes everything.
It gives you permission to:
Move differently
Respond differently
Prioritize yourself without guilt
Choose peace without explanation
Alignment Over Approval
I’ve learned that when you start walking in alignment, not everyone will understand.
Some people benefited from the version of you that overextended.
The version of you that didn’t say no.
The version of you that stayed quiet.
But growth requires honesty.
And alignment requires obedience.
A Personal Truth (Without Saying Too Much)
This year stretched me.
It asked more of me than I expected.
And yet… it gave me something I didn’t even know I needed:
Understanding.
And with that understanding came clarity.
And with that clarity came peace.
And with that peace came freedom.
What This Season Looks Like Now
This season is quieter.
More intentional.
More aligned.
More focused on what matters.
I’m building differently.
Moving differently.
Protecting my peace differently.
Not because I have everything figured out…
but because I finally understand what matters most.

A Birthday Reflection for You
As I reflect on another year of life, I want to ask you something:
Who are you becoming?
Not who people expect you to be.
Not who you used to be.
But who you are now.
And more importantly…
What has it cost you to become that person?
Conclusion
Growth isn’t free.
Healing isn’t easy.
Alignment requires decisions most people avoid.
But the version of you on the other side of that?
She’s worth it.
This birthday, I’m not just celebrating another year.
I’m honoring the woman I’ve become.
Because this version of me…
cost me something.
